Vipul had an engineering master’s degree, three years of experience, and a clear goal of steering his career toward project and product management. However, the job market was tough. Despite his strong background, getting past the initial screening to the first interview round was surprisingly difficult.
Facing repeated rejections drained Vipul’s energy and tested his professional confidence. That all changed after one pivotal job interview and the phone call that followed.
"When Academic Work's recruiter Niina called and confirmed I had gotten the job, I was completely speechless. I had been waiting for that moment for months," Vipul recalls.
He landed an exciting Product Engineer position at Academic Work’s client company. Vipul is officially employed by Academic Work and works as a consultant. He helps develop internal software for the client company's international sales team.
Getting to work in a large international company has provided a massive learning curve.
“I am grateful for my experienced colleagues who actively share their knowledge with me. It really accelerates my own development,” Vipul states.
The consultant model ensures double support and accelerates career growth
Support and psychological safety are crucial factors for individual growth. For Vipul, working as a consultant has proven to be a major advantage that accelerates his career development.
"As a consultant, I have two managers, which means two strong support networks," Vipul says.
In addition to the support provided by the client company's manager, Academic Work's Consultant Manager Niina acts as an active sounding board. She keeps in touch regularly, asks about work-life balance, and ensures overall well-being.
This safe environment has given Vipul the courage to be proactive about his own professional development and ask for more responsible tasks. The work he has put into his own growth has paid off.
During his current employment of about 1.5 years, Vipul has built strong industry expertise, and his work provides value for the company. Working with product development is versatile and interesting, which aligns perfectly with his career goals.
Vipul's story is part of Academic Work's career story series Unlocking true potential. Through these growth stories, we want to highlight how enabling growth opportunities brings great value to both early career professionals and the hiring company.
Right now, a larger group of professionals than ever before is looking for that opportunity. Academic Work's goal is 5000 jobs over the next three years. The job market only moves by moving it, and we are actively working towards that.
