About the role
As a R&D Senior Engineer, you will be responsible for the overall design and technical development of electric motors and propulsion-related electrical systems for ABB’s marine solutions. You will participate in both new development and modernization projects, working closely with multidisciplinary teams. Your role involves leading electrical design activities, ensuring system-level integrity, and supporting the integration of complex powertrain components.

Work tasks
- Leading electrical design related to electric motors and marine propulsion systems
- Creating system-level electrical concepts and detailed technical specifications
- Designing and reviewing electrical schematics and layouts (e.g., using EPLAN ProPanel)
- Ensuring compliance with marine electrical standards and ABB internal guidelines
- Coordinating electrical interfaces between motors, drives, cooling systems, and automation
- Supporting testing, commissioning, and documentation of the electrical systems
- Contributing to design reviews and participating in technical decision-making
We are looking for
- A university degree (B.Sc. or M.Sc.) in electrical engineering or equivalent
- Several years of experience in the design of electric motors, power systems, or propulsion equipment
- Proven experience in leading or coordinating technical design activities
- Strong understanding of electrical systems architecture, components, and standards
- Ability to work independently in technically complex environments
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken
It is meritorious if you have
- Experience with EPLAN ProPanel or similar electrical CAD/CAE tools
- Knowledge of frequency converters (drives) and their application in propulsion
- Familiarity with motor cooling technologies and system-level thermal management
- Experience in marine or transportation industry standards and classification requirements
- Skills in technical documentation, functional descriptions, or simulation tools (e.g., Python, MATLAB)
