About the role

KRIOS Infrastructure delivers early-stage, infrastructure-ready data centre sites across Europe. We are a newly formed company backed by a leading international private equity firm. Our team brings decades of experience across European energy, planning, and data centre markets.

You will play a key role in enabling our business, as infrastructure expertise is at the core of what we do. Finding power-ready, planning-viable land for a data centre in Europe is harder than it sounds. The data exists but it's scattered across a dozen, unharmonized national sources. This is the problem you will solve.

This role is pivotal in providing essential GIS insights to the team, enabling strategic location identification for new data centers. You will be instrumental in developing and optimizing a comprehensive GIS data platform, ensuring data quality and accessibility. You will provide important information on site selection and feasibility, infrastructure and utility mapping as well as environmental impact and permitting.

Work tasks

You will be responsible for leveraging GIS and data engineering expertise to build and manage a critical geospatial data platform and site selection analytics supporting the strategic development of infrastructure projects.

You will own:

Geospatial Data Platform

• Design and maintain the data model and cloud storage architecture (Azure / AWS / GCP) that underpins all spatial analysis.

Data Ingestion & Quality

• Build automated ETL pipelines (Python + SQL) to source, clean, harmonise, and refresh national geospatial datasets: cadastre/parcels, slope and topography, flood zones, electricity grid and capacity, roads, fibre, and planning constraints.
• Work with national sources across your target markets, for instance, MML (Finland), Lantmäteriet (Sweden), Kadaster (Netherlands).

Site Selection Analytics

• Coordinate with other team members to design and implement a documented, reproducible multi-criteria scoring methodology: fatal flaw screening, suitability scoring, scalability ranking.

Usable Tools for the Team

• Publish a self-serve web map (Leaflet / Mapbox / ArcGIS Online) the development team uses daily for prospecting and due diligence.
• Build simple query interfaces and export workflows so stakeholders can run buffer analyses and generate site packs without waiting for you.

This is what success could look like after 3-6 months in this role:

• A working cloud GIS serving clean base layers and site selection overlays across your core target markets.
• Automated weekly/monthly refreshes for the highest-priority national datasets, with documented lineage and clear SLAs.
• A self-serve web map the team uses daily for prospecting and due diligence — not just a demo, but a tool people rely on.
• A documented, reproducible suitability scoring method with clear metadata and explicit quality criteria the team has agreed to.

We are looking for

• Advanced knowledge of Data Engineering principles in spatial ETL processes - you have mastered Python, SQL and PostGIS as well as Cloud services.
• Proven expertise in GIS engineering, geospatial data engineering or a closely related field (you have experience in publishing web maps and solid grasp of CRS/projections, topology, and spatial indexing).
• Portfolio or examples showing end-to-end data platform and tooling delivery.
• Ability to document your methods clearly — assumptions, quality criteria and lineage.
• Fluent in spoken and written English.
