About the role

The Software Developer position is a full-time, on-site role located in Kirkkonummi, Finland. The successful candidate will join the Common Systems Software Department of Applied Materials, Inc., a global leader in materials engineering solutions crucial for producing advanced chips and displays.

This role is integral to the development of the control system software for our cutting-edge products. The work involves the demanding area of real-time control, ensuring the precise operation of various complex devices—including robots, motors, generators, pumps, flow controllers, and sensors—essential for atomic-scale manufacturing processes. The scope of work is broad, encompassing not only device control but also the creation of algorithms for material optimization, implementation of data collection, storage, and analysis systems, and deployment of solutions involving machine learning, analytics, remote access, and security.

Work tasks

The Developer will work within an agile SCRUM team and be responsible for the full software development lifecycle:

• Design and Development: Designs and develops robust, high-performance code for complex software projects, with a strong emphasis on C++.
• Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Troubleshoots and resolves difficult software problems, designing and implementing effective bug fixes.
• Documentation: Creates detailed software specifications and develops comprehensive technical documentation.
• Testing and Quality Assurance: Creates thorough test plans for use in simulators, test benches, or the lab, and supports efficient SW testing methodologies, including automated unit and integration testing.
• Collaboration and Communication: Interfaces with internal and external customers for requirement analysis, software troubleshooting, and project scheduling.
• Leadership: Acts as a resource and mentor for colleagues with less experience and may lead specific projects or workstreams.

We are looking for

• C++ Expertise: 5+ years of C++ experience, strong debugging skills, mastery of memory management, and performance optimization.
• Specialized Systems: Experience in several areas, including Real-time control, Motion control, Embedded programming, Multi-threading, and CAN Bus.
• DevOps: Proficient with Git SCM and automated unit/integration testing.
• Leadership: Acts as a resource for colleagues and leads projects.
• Problem-Solving: Excels at solving complex technical problems, analyzing solutions, and exercising sound judgment.
• Communication: Excellent communication skills (written and oral) with an ability to build consensus.
