Senior Software Engineer (Backend)

About the role

The work includes refactoring the current backend and introducing robust engineering practices. We’re hiring two senior engineers for our client; one purely backend-focused and one who can also take a Backend + DevOps lead (on-prem today, cloud-ready tomorrow).

Work tasks

• Design, build, and refactor backend services in Node.js + TypeScript
• Drive modernization: improve architecture, performance, reliability, and observability
• Use AI tools (and your own AI know-how) to accelerate development and improve product capabilities (e.g., intelligent data processing, automation, developer tooling)
• Collaborate with domain experts to align technical decisions with aviation/meteorology requirements
• (DevOps track) Own CI/CD and runtime environments in on-prem setups; harden infra, automate deployments, and pave a path toward cloud readiness

We are looking for

• 8–20 years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong backend focus
• Deep proficiency in Node.js and TypeScript (designing APIs, data flows, testing, performance)
• Concrete references to how you’ve applied AI: in the product, platform, or your development workflow (e.g., LLM-assisted features, code gen/tooling, intelligent pipelines)
• A self-starter mindset: curiosity, initiative, and the ability to figure things out in a fast-moving environment
• Strong collaboration skills and the judgment to make pragmatic trade-offs

It is meritorious if you have

• Experience modernizing legacy systems at scale
• DevOps / infra experience (especially on-prem): CI/CD, IaC, packaging, observability, secure networking
• Work with regulated or safety-critical domains

Practicalities

• Contract: Full-time and permanent
• Work model: Hybrid with occasional on-site days in Uusimaa
• Compensation: ~€6,500–€8,000/month depending on experience and chosen salary model
